I often ask leaders to share with me one thing that they’d like every staff member to know. Their responses may be stated in different ways, but the essence of most of their comments is that they want each and every person to know that they have a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others every single day. It can be the smallest thing, but a kind word, a smile, or a touch can speak volumes. Leaders must not only “preach” this, but reinforce it and support a culture where the little things are valued.
