This time of year we’re all likely to see lots of posts in our email box and social media threads about enjoying the holiday season and making plans for the new year. But I don’t want to add to that clutter.
Instead, I’d like to encourage my readers to take advantage of what, for many, is a welcome lull this time of year to engage in some self-reflection. It’s a time when things at work tend to slow down for many of us, and the winter solstice brings the shortest days of the year.
It’s the perfect time, I think, for a bit of reflection. Before we rush into New Year’s resolutions and goal-setting, I think it’s crucial to pause and take stock of where we are—to find our GEMs.
Finding Your GEMs
I like to think of this reflection process as uncovering “gems”—Gratitude, Excitement, and Manifestation (GEM):
- Gratitude. Considering the past year and the events of 2024, what are you most thankful for?
- Excitement. Looking ahead to 2025, what fills you with eager anticipation for the future?
- Manifestation. What do you want to bring into reality in the coming year?
Be mindful this holiday season as you think back on your successes, look forward to what the new year might bring, and identify exactly what you hope to manifest in 2025.
Time for Reflection
This holiday season, I encourage you to be kind and gentle with yourself. Acknowledge that you’ve made it through another year. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. Remember, not every achievement needs to be monumental to be meaningful.
Take time to sit quietly and reflect on these questions. You might be surprised at the insights that emerge when you allow yourself this space for introspection.
Happy holidays!
