I Don’t Have Time

Say these four words often enough and you’ll believe it without a doubt. Leaders who take our course, Be the Leader Nobody Wants to Leave, often tell us that they don’t have time to round, coach, or do stay interviews. 

Being a middle manager is a tough job. One of the toughest in healthcare. Even the title, middle manager, gives a sense of being trapped between senior leaders and frontline staff. Yet, this level of leadership is the most vital in creating and sustaining a healthy culture and maintaining employee engagement. 

Instead of putting more demands on middle leaders, we should be helping them to prioritize culture and relationships with their team members. 

What is more important than face time with team members? Are all those meetings really necessary? Instead of meetings with mandatory attendance, let’s measure coaching conversations and stay interviews completed. I’m betting on a much higher return on investment.
