Storytelling is a great way to engage your employees in your mission, vision and values, yet many leaders hesitate to tell stories, thinking, “I’m not a storyteller.” Well, maybe you aren’t today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t become a better storyteller. In his 16 minute TEDx Talk, storytelling expert coach, Doug Lipman, shares three connection-building strategies for creating an engaging story. Lipman begins his presentation by telling a story, then uses that story to illustrate the three strategies.
I recommend this TEDx Talk because it helps you think through how to tell a story that connects with the audience, builds rapport, and creates imagery. Lipman discusses how stories, because they engage on an emotional level, help increase care and compassion for others. I can’t think of a better place to increase care and compassion than healthcare. This is 16 minutes well invested.
