When I think of what it means to be a true patient experience champion, I think of The Wizard of Oz. Why? Because the four main characters represent the qualities needed to be a true patient experience champion. First of all it takes heart. We have to have passion for the role as well as compassion for others.
It takes brains to be a patient experience champion. We need to constantly keep abreast of best practices and share the learning.
It takes courage to be a strong patient advocate and a crusader for person centered care. And finally, it takes following your heart’s desire. You have to believe that there is a better way, even if the path isn’t crystal clear; you have to embark on the journey in faith.
