The Care and Feeding of Your Patient Experience Champions

We all need opportunities to refuel, especially if we want to stay energized and focused. I find that people who work in healthcare, especially those who are very passionate about their work, need time to reconnect, rejuvenate, and refuel. Working hard to improve the patient experience takes passion and endurance to keep going. It also takes new ideas and encouragement from your peers. That’s why I never miss the Patient Experience Conference hosted by the Beryl Institute.

Each year the conference gets better, with great speakers and an array of attendees ranging from those just starting the patient experience journey to those who are seasoned trendsetters. This year was no exception. After spending three days in Dallas last week surrounded by others dedicated to the patient experience, I left feeling refreshed and invigorated. This is where I find my people—the ones who share the same passion, vision, and energy for creating a better world for our patients.

Being the patient experience champion for an organization can be a lonely endeavor. Having time to talk, brainstorm, and dream with our peers is often just what we need to stay engaged in the journey. If you missed out on the conference, you can still purchase recordings from the sessions, but better yet, if you haven’t joined the institute, I highly recommend it. This is where you will find the real trailblazers in the patient experience, including resources ranging from white papers, webinars, publications, and even grants to help you further your patient experience goals. If you have a personal stake in improving the patient experience, don’t go it alone. Find your people and share the energy!
